Spring Harvest 2015: Further

So the final morning teaching on our Ephesians 3 theme is Further.

Of course now some 2 months later I’m looking back thinking “Further? Where does that come into it? Wider, longer, higher, deeper?”

Further of course is the take on ‘longer’.

Again it is worth stating that we start by looking at the length of Christ’s love for us. That is shown in the lengths to which he went to demonstrate that love, which we were further reminded of as we shared communion.

Jesus is described as having a goal. And because of that he endured the cross. 

We too are often reminded that we are in a long run and Cathy reminded us of this, referring to Hebrews 12.

There is a need to get spiritually fit, to train and prepare, and to keep going. We should stop making excuses and fix our eyes on Jesus.

All this sporty imagery does not really work for me. My idea of running is huffing and puffing round the block, but a lot of my friends do know about this stuff. 

My daughter Sarah has taken up running with a goal of completing a 10k. Her desire to do this and her dedication surprised me. 

Unfortunately a couple of weeks before the 10k she injured her ankle and the training ground to a halt. But nothing would stop her turning up on the day to run. It wasn’t what she had hoped for but her friend stayed with her and encouraged her round, and the crowd at the finish line cheered her home.

Next time it’ll be better but for her first attempt she went for it and literally ran through the pain.

Jesus ran through the pain for us.

God can do immeasurably more. He will get the glory.

So Spring Harvest done for another year. It has taken a while to work through my notes.

But the effects continue. I have preached twice on the theme passage and am reading the books that I gathered up in a fork lift truck at the SH bookstall (slight exaggeration!)
