Spring Harvest 2015: Closer 4

April 25, 2015

with acknowledgement to Christy Wimber

“From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us”. (‭Acts‬ ‭17‬:‭26-27‬ NIVUK)
God is not far from any of us. That’s a statement of reality. Even before the word of God is preached, there is a sense says Paul that everyone knows something of God!

God provides for us so we will seek him. And the promise to those who seek is that they will find him.

“We cannot say God is on the throne, but he lets some things slip through the cracks”.

That is interesting when we ask questions about those who have not heard the gospel!

“For in him we live and move and have our being.” As some of your own poets have said, “We are his offspring.” (‭Acts‬ ‭17‬:‭28‬ NIVUK)
We find our existence in God. We need to find who we are in him, rather than in what we do.

“What moves us is what gets us up in the morning”. Personally I’m not great at getting up in the morning. Usually my first thought is of a problem that may be ahead this day. How rarely do I wake up with God on my mind and anticipation of what we are going to do together today!

This affects us in the church. We can be so busy doing church rather than BEING church. We can get so caught up with doing church that we forget Jesus.

“God has invited you into intimacy and that is how you find your life. Need the spirit of the living God more than anything else. Will be found. When yield to Jesus will find life again in him”.
On my own or as Christians together. Need that intimacy with God.

Theology and worship again.
