Revelation blog post 19: Worthy

February 19, 2015

Revelation 4:9-11

The heavenly worship is infectious.

The mysterious creatures are worshipping. Giving glory honour and thanks to God. The one who sits on the throne. That’s a good definition of what our spoken and sung worship consists of. Glory, honour and thanks to the one on the throne.

And it is worship that is framed in eternity. For this is the God who lives forever and ever.

Infectious. For each time they bring their worship, the 2 dozen elders fall down before the throne. Worship effects them physically. There is no standing around with their hands in their pockets or fingering their hymn books. They fall down in worship. When was the last time worship affected you or I like that?

Those crowns that we read of now become part of their physical sacrificial worship, as they lay them before the throne in an act of surrender.

They also worship with words, expressing the worthiness of God. That is what worship is. Worth-ship.

God is fully deserving of glory and honour and power. Not this time glory honour and praise, but glory honour and power.

Not giving God our power surely, but recognising his ultimate power.

Recognising that power which found itself in creation..

Recognising in just a small way who he is and what he has done.

Cast your crowns before God in worship. Worship in surrender. Do you and I have crowns? Status? Recognition? Lay them before him. Make everything subject to him.
